Joan Carstens, RN, EAMP, MAcOM, NCCAOM
Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist
I opened Olympia Sports Acupuncture to enhance strength, clarity and healing for those with musculoskeletal concerns. After working as an RN for twenty years I returned to school receiving a Master's of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine and certification by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, NCCAOM.

Acupuncture and herbs nourish muscles to prevent or heal tissue damage. Acupuncture also increases comfort, range of motion, sleep and energy. Herbs can be taken orally or applied topically to facilitate healing. Moxibustion is used for warming and is very effective at reducing pain, redness and swelling. Tui na massage prior to acupuncture provides additional relief of conditions such as back pain and sciatica. Qi gong exercise improves balance and coordination among its other benefits.
I am honored to practice this ancient form of medicine. Though my focus is on body motion, I also treat other patterns in the body. I am happy to talk with you about the healing benefits of Oriental Medicine.
